Manotick Montessori Student Celebrates a Very Special Birthday

One of our students at Manotick Montressori celebrated her birthday a few weeks ago in a very special and unique way.

After working on the Art Show to raise funds and toys for kids in Africa, one of our students felt she needed to do more.
In March, Rebecca devoted her birthday party to the kids of Togo, Africa, requesting that all of the children bring gifts for Togo instead of for her.

Janine Marcotte, MM's Principal, caught up with Rebecca to learn more about her special birthday.

Janine: Rebecca I heard that you had done something special for your birthday this year, what was that?

Rebecca: Yes, I decided to ask all of the children that I invited to bring presents for the Togo children instead of for me.

J: That is just wonderful, what made you think of that?

R: I don’t know I just wanted too.

J: Did the children who came to your party like this idea?

R: Yes, they all thought it was good, they were excited to get the chance to buy gifts for Togo again.

J: Would you do this again, or tell others to try it for other people in need?

R: Yes, I would.

J: Rebecca would you like to go to Africa one day?

R: Yes I would like too.

Abdou was thrilled and grateful for the birthday donations and for helping the children in Togo as a whole.

"I just what to say thank you for everything you are doing for kinds in Africa. May God bless you, and protect you."

Check out some of the pictures from the fun-filled day!

Manotick Montessori put on Goldilocks & the Three Bears Play!

The Story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears

To kick off March Break, Manotick Montessori's Casa Program with Miss Bonnie put on a play for the students!

The students did an excellent job and everyone enjoyed the show.

Here's the story in case you missed us!

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Goldilocks.  She  went for a walk in the forest.  Pretty soon, she came upon a house.  She knocked and, when no one answered, she walked right in.

At the table in the kitchen, there were three bowls of porridge. Goldilocks was hungry.  She tasted the porridge from the first bowl.
"This porridge is too hot!" she exclaimed.
So, she tasted the porridge from the second bowl.
"This porridge is too cold," she said
So, she tasted the last bowl of porridge.
"Ahhh, this porridge is just right," she said happily and she ate it all up.
After she'd eaten the three bears' breakfasts she decided she was feeling a little tired.  So, she walked into the living room where she saw three chairs.  Goldilocks sat in the first chair to rest her feet.
"This chair is too big!" she exclaimed.
So she sat in the second chair.
"This chair is too big, too!"  she whined.
So she tried the last and smallest chair.
"Ahhh, this chair is just right," she sighed.  But just as she settled down into the chair to rest, it broke into pieces!

Goldilocks was very tired by this time, so she went upstairs to the bedroom.  She lay down in the first bed, but it was too hard. Then she lay in the second bed, but it was too soft. Then she lay down in the third bed and it was just right.  Goldilocks fell asleep.

As she was sleeping, the three bears came home.
"Someone's been eating my porridge," growled the Papa bear.
"Someone's been eating my porridge," said the Mama bear.
"Someone's been eating my porridge and they ate it all up!" cried the Baby bear.
"Someone's been sitting in my chair," growled the Papa bear.
"Someone's been sitting in my chair," said the Mama bear.
"Someone's been sitting in my chair and they've broken it all to pieces," cried the Baby bear.

They decided to look around some more and when they got upstairs to the bedroom, Papa bear growled, "Someone's been sleeping in my bed,"
"Someone's been sleeping in my bed, too" said the Mama bear
"Someone's been sleeping in my bed and she's still there!" exclaimed Baby bear.

Just then, Goldilocks woke up and saw the three bears.  She screamed, "Help!"  And she jumped up and ran out of the room.  Goldilocks ran down the stairs, opened the door, and ran away into the forest.  And she never returned to the home of the three bears.

We hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful March Break!
We look forward to having you all back soon!

Manotick Montessori Gives Back!

Abdou has officially picked up all of the donations!!!!

He was literally speechless with tears in his eyes when he saw everything that was donated by the Manotick Montessori staff, children and their families.

"I don’t know what to say to everyone," Abdou said. "I don’t think that I can say the right words to let you know how happy you have made me."

I thought those words were pretty perfect!

Everyone worked so hard to get everything together!

We were able to fill an entire van with ALL of the amazing donations... AND he's coming back for more!!

Although we have completed our part with all of the donations, we'll make sure to follow Abdou in his travels from April to June, when he meets the container.

We all had so much fun together, and all for a great cause...

Again, thank you to everyone, this could not have been such a HUGE success without all of your generosity and kindness!

Art Show at Manotick Montessori a Great Success!

The Art Show this year to raise awareness and collect donations for Togo, Africa, went extremely well on Friday night.

The energy and excitement in the school was more than we could of asked for.

The children’s art displayed at the school for all to see, was more beautiful than any of us could have imagined!

The parents loved the idea that all of the items and art work purchased, was being shipped directly to the children in Togo Africa by Abdou himself.

We would like to thank all of our parents for being so supportive and for their amazing generosity!
